Guide others away from wrongdoing without punishment , preach & threaten instead of punishing people for their wrongdoings .

This hadith is narrated by Uqbah ibn Amir who quoted his scribe Dukhayn saying that they had some neighbours who used to drink wine and he tried to prevent them from doing so but they did not stop. He then went to Uqbah ibn Amir asking him what he should do about it and he said to leave them alone as the Messenger of Allah said the same thing according to another narrator named Muslim. Abu Dawud added that in this version Hashim b. al-Qasim said on the authority of Laith that one should preach them and threaten them instead of punishing them for their wrongdoings. This hadith teaches us that we should not punish people for their wrongdoings but rather preach and threaten them in order to make sure they understand why what they are doing is wrong without having any negative consequences on themselves or others around them due to punishment or other forms of retribution such as calling the police on someone for drinking wine which was mentioned in this hadith as an example of a wrongdoing which one should not punish someone else for but rather try to help guide him/her away from it through preaching and threatening if necessary without any form of punishment involved whatsoever.
