Sunan Abi Dawud 4883 (Book 43, Hadith 111) #25174
Defending Believers from Hypocrites

SUMMARY: If one defends a believer from a hypocrite, Allah will reward them with protection on the Day of Resurrection. If one attacks a Muslim, Allah will restrain them until they are acquitted of their words.

Narrated Mu'adh ibn Anas: The Prophet said: If anyone guards a believer from a hypocrite, Allah will send an angel who will guard his flesh on the Day of Resurrection from the fire of Jahannam; but if anyone attacks a Muslim saying something by which he wishes to disgrace him, he will be restrained by Allah on the bridge over Jahannam till he is acquitted of what he said.

QUICK LESSONS:
Defend believers from hypocrites

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of defending believers from hypocrites. A hypocrite is someone who claims to be a believer but does not act according to Islamic teachings and principles. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if anyone guards or defends a believer from such people, Allah will send an angel to guard their flesh on the Day of Resurrection and protect them from the fire of Jahannam. On the other hand, if anyone attacks another Muslim by saying something that would disgrace them, then Allah will restrain that person on the bridge over Jahannam until they are acquitted or forgiven for what they said. This hadith teaches us how important it is to defend believers and also reminds us not to attack other Muslims with our words as we may be held accountable for it in front of Allah on Judgment Day.
