Sunan Abi Dawud 4880 (Book 43, Hadith 108) #25171
Avoiding Backbiting and Fault-Finding

SUMMARY: Do not backbite Muslims and do not search for their faults, as Allah will search for the fault of anyone who does so and disgrace them.

Narrated AbuBarzah al-Aslami: The Prophet said: O community of people, who believed by their tongue, and belief did not enter their hearts, do not back-bite Muslims, and do not search for their faults, for if anyone searches for their faults, Allah will search for his fault, and if Allah searches for the fault of anyone, He disgraces him in his house.

QUICK LESSONS:
Avoid backbiting & fault finding among fellow Muslims

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is a reminder from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to avoid backbiting and fault finding among fellow Muslims. Backbiting is when someone speaks ill of another person behind their back, while fault finding is when someone looks for mistakes in others. The Prophet ﷺ warns us that if we do these things, Allah will search for our own faults and disgrace us in our own homes. This hadith teaches us to be kind to one another, respect each other’s privacy, and focus on improving ourselves instead of looking at the flaws of others. We should strive to be better people by avoiding gossiping about others or trying to find their mistakes.
