Respect for Others' Property

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) forbade anyone to wipe their hands on the clothing of someone whose clothing they had not provided.

Narrated AbuBakrah: Sa'id ibn AbulHasan said: When AbuBakrah came to us to give some evidence, a man got up from his place, but he refused to sit in it saying: The Prophet forbade this, and the Prophet forbade anyone to wipe his hand on the garment of anyone whose clothing he had not himself provided.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect for others and their property no matter what it is.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about respecting other people's property. It was narrated by AbuBakrah and Sa'id ibn AbulHasan that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade anyone to wipe their hands on the clothing of someone whose clothing they had not provided. This means that we should not use or touch something that does not belong to us without permission from its owner. We should also be careful with how we treat other people's belongings, even if it is something as small as a piece of cloth or garment. We should always show respect for others and their property no matter what it is.
