The Power of Shame

SUMMARY: People should have shame and act accordingly.

Abu Mas'ud reported the Messenger of Allah as saying : One of the things people have learnt from the words of the earliest prophecy is : If you have no shame, do what you like.

QUICK LESSONS:
Have respectability and self-control when making decisions
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the power of shame and how it can help guide our actions. It was reported by Abu Mas’ud that the Messenger of Allah said “One of the things people have learnt from the words of the earliest prophecy is : If you have no shame, do what you like.” This means that if we don't feel ashamed or embarrassed to do something wrong then we will be more likely to do it. However, if we are aware that something is wrong and feel ashamed to do it then this can help us make better decisions and act in a more moral way. The Prophet's words remind us that having a sense of shame can be an important tool for guiding our behaviour in a positive direction.
