Sunan Abi Dawud 4669 (Book 42, Hadith 74) #24960
Comparing Oneself to the Prophet

SUMMARY: It is wrong to compare oneself to the Prophet.

It is not fitting for a servant to say that I (The Prophet) is better than Jonah (Yunus ibn Matta, the son of Matta.).

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect those who have come before us
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that it is wrong for a person to compare themselves with the Prophet. The Prophet was sent by Allah as a mercy and guide for all of mankind, and so it is disrespectful for anyone to think they are better than him. We should always remember that no one can ever be like the Prophet, and we should strive to follow his example in our lives. We must also respect those who have come before us, such as Jonah, and not think of ourselves as superior in any way.
