Respect for the Prophet (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) was speaking to Urwah b. Masud when Al-Mughirah b. Shubah intervened and warned Urwah to keep his hands away from the Prophet's beard.

Al-Miswar b. Makhramah said : The prophet ﷺ went out during the time of (treaty of) al-Hudaibiyyah. He then mentioned the rest of the tradition. He said : 'Urwah b. Mas’ud then came to him and began to speak to the Prophet ﷺ. Whenever he talk to him, he caught his beard ; and al-Mughirah b. Shu’bah was standing near the head of the Prophet ﷺ with a sword with him and a helmet on him. He then struck his hand with the handle of the sword, saying : Keep away your hand from his beard'.Urwah then raised his head and said : Who is this ? The prophet said : Al-Mughirah b. Shu’bah.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ ثَوْرٍ، حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ، قَالَ خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَأَتَاهُ - يَعْنِي عُرْوَةَ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ - فَجَعَلَ يُكَلِّمُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَكُلَّمَا كَلَّمَهُ أَخَذَ بِلِحْيَتِهِ وَالْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ قَائِمٌ عَلَى رَأْسِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ السَّيْفُ وَعَلَيْهِ الْمِغْفَرُ فَضَرَبَ يَدَهُ بِنَعْلِ السَّيْفِ وَقَالَ أَخِّرْ يَدَكَ عَنْ لِحْيَتِهِ ‏.‏ فَرَفَعَ عُرْوَةُ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالُوا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of respecting the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and how even those closest to him were careful not to cross any boundaries in their interactions with him. In this hadith we see that when Urwah b. Masud was talking to the prophet ﷺ he caught his beard and Al-Mughirab b. Shubha intervened by striking his hand with a sword handle as a warning for him not to touch the prophet’s beard again out of respect for him ﷺ . This hadith teaches us that we should always show respect towards our elders and especially towards our beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ . We should never forget that he is an example of perfect character and conduct for us all so it is important that we treat him with utmost respect at all times no matter what situation or circumstance we are in .
