Sunan Abi Dawud 4642 (Book 42, Hadith 47) #24933
Respecting Those Sent by Allah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of respecting and honoring those who are sent by Allah for a need.

Al-Rabi’ b. Khalid al-Dabbi said: I heard al-Hajjaj say in his address: Is the messenger of one of you sent for some need is more respectable with him or his successor among his people? I thought in my mind: I make a vow for Allah that I shall never pray behind you. If I find people who fight against you, I shall fight against you along with them. Ishaq added in his version: He fought in the battle of al-Jamajim until he was killed.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect those sent by Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of respecting those who are sent by Allah for a need, such as messengers or successors. Al-Rabi b. Khalid al-Dabbi heard al-Hajjaj ask if one's messenger or successor was more respectable with him than his own people, to which he thought in his mind that he would never pray behind him and would fight against him if he found people doing so. Ishaq added that he fought in the battle of al-Jamajim until he was killed, showing how important it is to respect those sent by Allah even when it comes at a cost. It teaches us that we should always honor and respect those who have been chosen by God for a purpose, no matter what our personal opinions may be on them or their actions.
