Punishment for Drinking Wine

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned that if people drink wine, they should be punished and if they continue to do so, the punishment should become more severe.

Narrated Mu'awiyah ibn AbuSufyan: The Prophet said: If they (the people) drink wine, flog them, again if they drink it, flog them. Again if they drink it, kill them.
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، ذَكْوَانَ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ إِذَا شَرِبُوا الْخَمْرَ فَاجْلِدُوهُمْ ثُمَّ إِنْ شَرِبُوا فَاجْلِدُوهُمْ ثُمَّ إِنْ شَرِبُوا فَاجْلِدُوهُمْ ثُمَّ إِنْ شَرِبُوا فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of drinking alcohol. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned that if people are found drinking alcohol, they should be punished and if they continue to do so, the punishment should become more severe. This hadith teaches us that we must obey Allah's commands and stay away from things which are forbidden in Islam such as consuming alcohol. It also teaches us that we must take responsibility for our actions and not repeat mistakes which can lead to serious consequences. We must also remember that Allah is All-Knowing and He knows what is best for us. Therefore, it is important to follow His commands in order to live a life of righteousness and piety.
