Punishment for Adultery in Islam

SUMMARY: A man of the tribe of Aslam committed fornication and was stoned to death after confessing his crime. The Prophet ﷺ did not pray over him.

Jabir b. 'Abd Allah said: A man of the tribe of Aslam came to the Messenger of Allah and made confession of fornication. He (the prophet) turned away from him. When he testified against him four times, the Prophet said: Are you mad? He said: #he asked: Are you married? He replied: Yes. The Prophet then commanded regarding him and he was stoned in the place of prayer. Then when the stones hurt him, he fled, but was overtaken and stoned to death. The Prophet then spoke well of him and did not pray over him.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect life after death regardless one's actions while alive ; Show mercy towards sinners despite them having broken God's laws ; Speak well about people even though they are being punished accordingly due to their sins .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man from the tribe of Aslam who committed adultery and confessed to it four times. The Prophet Muhammad turned away from him at first but when he testified against himself four times, the Prophet asked if he was mad. When he replied that he was married, the Prophet commanded that he be stoned in the place of prayer as punishment for his crime. When the stones hurt him too much, he tried to flee but was caught and stoned until death. The Prophet spoke well of him even though no prayer was said over him after his death as a result of his sinning against Allah's laws. This hadith teaches us that adultery is a serious offence in Islam and those who commit it will be punished accordingly according to Islamic law with no exceptions made even if they repent or confess their sins multiple times. It also teaches us that we should always respect those who have passed away regardless of their actions while alive as this is what Allah has commanded us to do in His holy book - The Quran - which states “And speak not ill of those who have died".
