Punishment for Theft in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) used to cut off the hand of a thief if they stole an amount of money equal to or more than a quarter of a dinar.

'A’ishah said: The prophet used to cut off a thief’s hand for a quarter of a dinar and upwards.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْهُ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، رضى الله عنها أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ كَانَ يَقْطَعُ فِي رُبْعِ دِينَارٍ فَصَاعِدًا
