EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the permissibility of killing a slave who has run away and reverted to polytheism. This hadith serves as an example of how Islam views apostasy, or the act of leaving one's religion and reverting back to polytheism. It also serves as an example of how slavery was viewed in Islamic society; slaves were not allowed to leave their masters without permission, and if they did so they could be punished by death.
