Sunan Abi Dawud 4247 (Book 37, Hadith 8) #24537
Fleeing Away in Times of Uncertainty

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of fleeing away if a caliph is not found and that the Last Hour will come when it is time.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Hudhaifah through a different chain of narrators from the Prophet . This version says: He said: If you do not find a caliph in those days, then flee away until you die, even of you die holding on (to a stump of a tree). I asked: What will come next ? He replied: If a man wants the mare to bring forth a foal, it will not deliver in till the Last Hour comes.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be prepared for uncertain times and take necessary precautions such as fleeing away when needed.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to us about the importance of fleeing away in times of uncertainty. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked what would happen if a caliph was not found and he replied that one should flee away until they die even if they have to hold on to a tree stump. He then went on to explain that just like how a mare cannot deliver its foal until it's time, so too will the Last Hour come when it's time. This hadith teaches us that we should always be prepared for uncertain times and take necessary precautions such as fleeing away if needed. It also reminds us that no matter what happens in this world, Allah SWT has control over all things and He alone knows when the Last Hour will come.
