Sunan Abi Dawud 4225 (Book 36, Hadith 12) #24515
Seeking Guidance and Forbidden Items

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teaching Ali to ask Allah for guidance and forbidding him from wearing certain items.

Narrated Ali: The Messenger of Allah said to me: Say: O Allah, guide me, and set me right. Remember by guidance (Hidayah) the showing of the straight path, and remember by setting right (sadad) the setting right of an arrow. Then pointing to the middle finger and the one next to it, he said: He forbade me to wear a signet-ring on this finger of mine or on this (Asim was doubtful). He forbade me to wear Qassiyah (qasi garments) and mitharah. Abu Burdah said: We asked 'Ali: What is Qasiyyah ? He said: These are garments imported to us from Syria or Egypt. They are stripped and marked like citrons. And mitharah was a thing made by women for their husbands.

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek guidance from Allah in all matters of life, Follow His commands even if you don't understand them at first

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught his companion Ali to always seek guidance from Allah in all matters. He also instructed him not to wear a signet ring on his middle finger or the one next to it. Additionally, he forbade him from wearing garments imported from Syria or Egypt that were stripped and marked like citrons as well as mitharah which was a thing made by women for their husbands. This hadith teaches us that we should always seek guidance from Allah in all matters of life and follow His commands even if we don't understand them at first. It also reminds us of the importance of modesty in our dress code and how it can affect our relationship with God. Furthermore, this hadith encourages us to be mindful of what we wear so that it does not distract others or lead them astray.
