The Greatest Verse of the Qur'an

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was asked which is the greatest verse of the Qur'an and he replied with a verse from Surah Al-Baqarah.

Narrated Ibn al-Asqa': The Prophet came to them in the swelling place of immigrants and a man asked him: Which is the greatest verse of the Qur'an ? The Prophet replied: Allah, there is no god but He - the Living, the Self-Subsisting Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ، أَنَّ مَوْلًى، لاِبْنِ الأَسْقَعِ - رَجُلَ صِدْقٍ - أَخْبَرَهُ عَنِ ابْنِ الأَسْقَعِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ جَاءَهُمْ فِي صُفَّةِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ فَسَأَلَهُ إِنْسَانٌ أَىُّ آيَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ أَعْظَمُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏"‏ ‏{‏ اللَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَىُّ الْقَيُّومُ لاَ تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلاَ نَوْمٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of one particular verse in the Quran. It is narrated by Ibn al-Asqa', that a man asked Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which is the greatest verse in the Quran and he replied with a verse from Surah Al Baqara. This particular verse states that Allah is One and there is no other god but Him; He does not sleep nor slumber. This hadith teaches us to have faith in Allah and His power as He alone can provide us with all our needs. We should also remember that He never sleeps or slumbers so we should always turn to Him for help whenever we need it. Furthermore, this hadith also reminds us to recite this powerful ayat often as it will bring us closer to Allah and increase our faith in Him.
