Sunan Abi Dawud 3958 (Book 31, Hadith 33) #24248
Emancipation of Slaves According to the Prophet ﷺ

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ severely criticized a man who emancipated all of his slaves at the time of his death, and instead divided them into three sections and cast lots among them to emancipate two and keep four in slavery.

'Imran b. Hussain said: A man who had no other property emancipated six slaves of his at the time of the death. When the Prophet was informed about it, he spoke severely of him. He then called them, divided them into three sections, cast lots among them, and emancipated two and kept four in slavery.

QUICK LESSONS:
Think carefully before making decisions which could have far-reaching consequences on our lives and those around us.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man who had six slaves but decided to emancipate all of them at the time of his death. When the Prophet was informed about this, he spoke severely against it and instead suggested that they be divided into three sections, with lots being cast among them so that two would be freed while four would remain enslaved. This teaches us that emancipation should not be done in one go as it can lead to chaos or disruption in society; rather, it should be done gradually over time so as not to cause any harm or damage. It also shows us how important it is for us to think carefully before making decisions which could have far-reaching consequences on our lives and those around us.
