Forbidden Consumption of Donkey Meat

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade the consumption of donkey meat and the animal that feeds on filth.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: On the day of Khaybar the Messenger of Allah (may pease be upon him) forbade (eating) the flesh of domestic asses, and the animal which feeds on filth: riding it and eating its flesh.
حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ عَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ الأَهْلِيَّةِ وَعَنِ الْجَلاَّلَةِ عَنْ رُكُوبِهَا وَأَكْلِ لَحْمِهَا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's teachings regarding what food is permissible to consume. On the day of Khaybar he forbade eating donkey meat as well as any animal that feeds on filth. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of what we eat and not to consume anything that is considered impure or unclean according to Islamic teachings. It also reminds us to respect animals and not use them for our own benefit without considering their welfare first. We should strive to make sure that all animals are treated with kindness and compassion in order for us to receive Allah's blessings in return.
