Enjoying Pumpkin Soup with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was invited to a meal by a tailor and enjoyed the pumpkin soup.

Anas b. Malik said: A tailor invited the Messenger of Allah to a meal which he had prepared. Anas said: I went along with the Messenger of Allah barley bread and soup containing pumpkin and dried sliced meat. Anas said: I saw the Messenger of Allah going after the pumpkin round the dish, so I have always liked pumpkins since that day.
حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ إِنَّ خَيَّاطًا دَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لِطَعَامٍ صَنَعَهُ - قَالَ أَنَسٌ - فَذَهَبْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الطَّعَامِ فَقَرَّبَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ خُبْزًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ وَمَرَقًا فِيهِ دُبَّاءٌ وَقَدِيدٌ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَنَسٌ فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَتَتَبَّعُ الدُّبَّاءَ مِنْ حَوَالَىِ الصَّحْفَةِ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أُحِبُّ الدُّبَّاءَ بَعْدَ يَوْمِئِذٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the time when Anas b. Malik, one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad, was invited to a meal by a tailor. The meal consisted of barley bread and soup containing pumpkin and dried sliced meat. Anas noticed that Prophet Muhammad enjoyed the pumpkin soup so much that he kept going after it around the dish, which made him like pumpkins ever since then. This hadith teaches us to be grateful for what we have been given and enjoy it with others in our lives as well as appreciate small things in life such as pumpkins!
