Sunan Abi Dawud 3714 (Book 27, Hadith 46) #24004
Counseling the Prophet (PBUH) on Allah's Laws

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet (PBUH) not drinking honey again after Aishah and Hafsah counseled each other to remind him of Allah's laws.

A’ishah said that the prophet used to stay with Zainab, daughter of Jahsh, and drink honey. I and Hafsah counseled each other that if the Prophet enters upon any of us, she must say : I find the smell of gum (Maghafir) from you. He then entered upon one of them; she said that to him. Thereupon he said : No, I drank honey at (the house of) Zainab daughter of jahsh, and I will not do it again. Then the following verse came down :’’O Prophet !why holdest thou to be forbidden that which Allah has made lawful to thee ? '’Thou seekest. . . If you two turn in repentance to Allah '’ refers to Hafsah and A’ishah , and the verse: '’When the Prophet disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his consorts’’ refers to the statements of the Prophet disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his consorts’’ refers to the statement of the Prophet :No, I drank honey.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take advice from others , Be mindful towards one's action , Obey God's command , Repent for one's sins .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Aishah and Hafsah counseled the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). They reminded him that he should not do something that was forbidden by Allah, even if it seemed like a small thing. In this case, it was drinking honey. The Prophet accepted their advice and promised not to do it again. As a result of this incident, two verses were revealed in the Quran which praised them for their actions. These verses also taught us an important lesson; we should always be mindful of our actions and make sure they are in line with what Allah has commanded us to do. We should also take advice from others when needed, as long as it does not contradict with what Allah has said or done. This hadith teaches us that we can help each other stay on the right path by reminding each other of our duties towards God and His laws.
