Sahih al-Bukhari 2508 (Book 48, Hadith 1) #2400
Contentment with Little

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mortgaged his armor for barley grains and was content with the little food he had for his family.

Narrated Anas: No doubt, the Prophet mortgaged his armor for barley grams. Once I took barley bread with some dissolved fat on it to the Prophet and I heard him saying, "The household of Muhammad did not possess except a Sa (of food grain, barley, etc) for both the morning and the evening meals although they were nine houses".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be content with what you have; Live simply; Remain humble; Show gratitude towards Allah's blessings .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the contentment of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He mortgaged his armor for barley grains to provide food for his family. Despite having nine houses in total, they only had enough food grain to make one Sa of bread per day. A Sa is a measure of volume used in Arabia at that time and it was enough to feed them all. This shows us that even though he was a prophet and leader of an entire nation, he still chose to live simply and remain humble by being content with what little he had.
