Sunan Abi Dawud 3704 (Book 27, Hadith 36) #23994
Separating Dates for Nabidh

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ forbade mixing raisins and dried dates, unripe dates and fresh dates, and dates beginning to take on colour and fresh dates. He suggested to make a drink from each separately.

'Abd Allah b. Abi Qatadah said that his father Abu Qatadah forbade mixing raisins and dried dates, mixing unripe dates and fresh dates, and mixing dates beginning to take on colour and fresh dates. He said: Make nabidh (drink) from each separately. He (the narrator Yahya) said: Abu Salamah bin 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to me this tradition on the authority of Abu Qatadah from the Prophet

QUICK LESSONS:
Make nabidh from each type of date separately .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about separating different types of dates when making nabidh. The Prophet forbade mixing raisins and dried dates, unripe dates and fresh dates, as well as those beginning to take on colour with fresh ones. Instead he suggested making a drink from each type separately. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of what we mix together in our lives too; it is important to keep things separate so that they can maintain their individual qualities instead of becoming muddled together into something unrecognizable or undesirable. We should also strive for balance in our lives by not overindulging in any one thing but rather taking time out for all aspects of life such as work, family, friends etc., so that none become neglected or forgotten about.
