Intoxication and Moderation

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that if a large amount of something causes intoxication, then even a small amount of it is prohibited.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet said: If a large amount of anything causes intoxication, a small amount of it is prohibited.
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ - عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي الْفُرَاتِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ مَا أَسْكَرَ كَثِيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرَامٌ

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us that if something can cause intoxication when taken in large amounts, then even a small amount of it should be avoided. This hadith emphasizes the importance of moderation in all aspects of life. We should not overindulge in anything, whether it is food, drink or any other activity. Too much of anything can have negative consequences and lead to harm for ourselves and others around us. Therefore, we must practice self-control and moderation in order to stay away from things that are prohibited by Allah SWT.
