Prohibition of Intoxicants

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade the consumption of any intoxicants, including wine made from grape-syrup, raisins, dried dates, wheat, barley and millet.

Narrated An-Nu'man ibn Bashir: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Wine is made from grape-syrup, raisins, dried dates, wheat, barley, millet, and I forbid you from every intoxicant.
حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ أَبُو غَسَّانَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي حَرِيزٍ، أَنَّ عَامِرًا، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ الْخَمْرَ مِنَ الْعَصِيرِ وَالزَّبِيبِ وَالتَّمْرِ وَالْحِنْطَةِ وَالشَّعِيرِ وَالذُّرَةِ وَإِنِّي أَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْ كُلِّ مُسْكِرٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith narrated by An Nu'man ibn Bashir, the Prophet Muhammad forbade the consumption of any intoxicants. This includes wine made from grape syrup or raisins as well as other grains such as wheat, barley and millet. This prohibition is a reminder to Muslims that they should stay away from anything that can cause intoxication or harm their health in any way. It also serves to protect them from engaging in activities that are not permissible according to Islamic teachings.
