Making Atonement for Wrongdoing

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's wife, Aisha, breaking a vessel while Safiyyah was cooking food for the Prophet and how the Prophet asked her to make an atonement.

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: I saw no one cooking food like Safiyyah. She cooked food for the Messenger of Allah and sent it. I became angry and broke the vessel. I then asked: Messenger of Allah, what is the atonement for what I have done? He replied: A vessel like (this) vessel and food like (this) food.

QUICK LESSONS:
Apologize sincerely from mistakes made , Try your best to repair any damage caused by your actions .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how one should make amends when they have done something wrong. In this case, it was narrated by Aisha who was the wife of the Prophet Muhammad. She saw that Safiyyah was cooking food for him and became angry and broke a vessel. When she asked what she should do to make up for her mistake, he told her that she must replace it with another vessel and cook food like what Safiyyah cooked before. This teaches us that when we do something wrong or hurt someone else in any way, we must apologize sincerely and try to make up for our mistake in whatever way possible so as to restore peace between us and those whom we have hurt or wronged. We must also remember that Allah will forgive us if we repent sincerely from our mistakes but it is important to also try our best to repair any damage caused by our actions as well.
