Sunan Abi Dawud 3530 (Book 24, Hadith 115) #23820
Property & Children Belonging

SUMMARY: A man asked the Prophet ﷺ about what happens to his property and children when his father finishes it, and the Prophet replied that the man belongs to his father while his children come from what he earns.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: A man came to the Prophet and said: Messenger of Allah, I have property and children, and my father finishes my property. He replied; You and your property belong to your father; your children come from the pleasantest of what you earn; so enjoy from the earning of your children.

QUICK LESSONS:
Provide for your own offspring; Take delight in your earnings; Work hard and dedicate yourself towards achieving goals; Be responsible with your possessions/property/earnings etc..

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man who came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asking him what would happen to his property and children if his father finished it. The Prophet ﷺ replied that the man belonged to his father, but that any children he had would come from whatever he earned himself. This teaches us that our possessions are not necessarily ours forever; they can be taken away or given away by our parents or guardians. However, we are responsible for providing for our own offspring, as they come from whatever we earn ourselves. We should also take delight in whatever we have earned through hard work and dedication.
