Sunan Abi Dawud 3522 (Book 24, Hadith 107) #23812
Equivalence of Buyers and Creditors

SUMMARY: If a buyer pays part of the price of an item, he is equal to the creditors in the remaining price. If a man dies and he has not paid for an item, he is still equal to the creditors.

A similar tradition (to the #3513) has been transmitted by AbuHurayrah from the Prophet . This version has: If he paid something from its price, then he will be equal to the creditors in the remaining price. If a man dies and he has the very property of a man (ie seller), he is equal to the creditors whether he (the buyer) pays him (the price) or not. Abu Dawud said: Malik's version of this tradition is sounder.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be fair when it comes to payment and debt; Strive for honesty; Pay your debts on time

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that if someone buys something and pays part of its price, they are considered equal to any creditors in terms of what remains unpaid. It also states that if someone dies before paying for something they have bought, they are still considered equal to any creditors in terms of what remains unpaid. This hadith teaches us that we should be fair when it comes to payment and debt; we should not take advantage or be unfair towards those who owe us money or those who owe money to others. We should also strive to pay our debts on time so as not to burden others with our obligations.
