SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that when buying a slave, the buyer should make sure to include a proviso in order to keep the slave's property.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet said: If anyone buys a slave who possesses property, his property belongs to the seller unless the buyer makes a proviso.

This hadith is about the rights of slaves and their property. It teaches us that when someone buys a slave, they should make sure to include a proviso in order for them to keep any property that the slave may have. This means that if there is no proviso included, then all of the property will belong to the seller instead of the buyer. This hadith emphasizes how important it is for buyers and sellers alike to be aware of their rights and responsibilities when it comes to buying or selling slaves. It also teaches us about fairness and justice in business transactions, as well as respect for others’ possessions.
