Assessing Gold and Silver

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that gold and silver will belong to the one who assesses it.

The tradition mentioned above has also been narrated by Ja'far b. Burqan through his chain and to the same effect. This version has: He said: He assessed, and after the words of kull safara' wa baida', he said: that is, gold and silver will belong to him.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَبِي الزَّرْقَاءِ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بُرْقَانَ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ وَمَعْنَاهُ قَالَ فَحَزَرَ وَقَالَ عِنْدَ قَوْلِهِ وَكُلَّ صَفْرَاءَ وَبَيْضَاءَ يَعْنِي الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ لَهُ

This hadith explains that the one who assesses gold and silver will be rewarded with ownership of it. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us about being honest in our dealings with others, so when assessing something we should always strive for fairness and justice.
