Sunan Abi Dawud 3398 (Book 23, Hadith 73) #23688
The Benefits of Obeying Allah and His Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade people from renting land for a share of its produce and instead encouraged them to lend it to their brothers or leave it.

Narrated Usaid b. Zuhair: Rafi' b. Khadij came to us and said: The Messenger of Allah forbids you from a work which is beneficial to you ; and obedience to Allah and His Prophet is more beneficial to you. The Messenger of Allah forbids you from renting land for share of its produce and he said: If anyone if not in need of his land he should lend it to his brother or leave it. Abu Dawud said: Shu'bah and Mufaddal b. Muhalhal have narrated it from Mansur in similar way. Shu'bah said (in his version): Usaid, nephew of Rafi' b, Khadij.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of obeying Allah and His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in order to benefit oneself. In this hadith, the Prophet ﷺ forbids people from renting land for a share of its produce as he believes that it is not beneficial for them. Instead he encourages them to lend it to their brothers or leave it if they are not in need of the land themselves. This hadith teaches us that we should always obey Allah and His Messenger ﷺ as doing so will bring us more benefit than any other action we could take on our own accord. It also teaches us that we should be generous with our resources by lending them out or leaving them if we do not need them ourselves so others can benefit from what we have been blessed with by Allah SWT .
