Sunan Abi Dawud 3344 (Book 23, Hadith 19) #23634
Charity in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad purchased a calf from a caravan and sold it for profit, which he then gave to the poor and widows of Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib. He vowed not to buy anything without money.

A similar tradition has also been transmitted by Ibn 'Abbas though a different chain of narrators. This version says: "He (the Prophet) purchased a calf from a caravan, but he had no money with him. He then sold it with some profit and gave the profit in charity to the poor and widows of Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib. He then said: I shall not buy anything after this but only when I have money with me.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give away extra wealth as charity; Be mindful of spending habits; Strive for self-sufficiency; Use wealth wisely for good causes

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of charity in Islam. It tells us that when the Prophet Muhammad had some extra money, he chose to give it away in charity to those who were less fortunate than him. This teaches us that we should always be generous with our wealth and use it to help others who are in need. We should also strive to be self-sufficient and not rely on others for our needs, as the Prophet did not purchase anything without having money with him first. Furthermore, this hadith shows us that we should always be mindful of how we spend our money and use it wisely for good causes such as helping those who are less fortunate than us.
