Sunan Abi Dawud 3336 (Book 23, Hadith 11) #23626
Generosity in Business Transactions

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to be generous and give more than what is due.

Narrated Suwayd ibn Qays: I and Makhrafah al-Abdi imported some garments from Hajar, and brought them to Mecca. The Messenger of Allah came to us walking, and after he had bargained with us for some trousers, we sold them to him. There was a man who was weighing for payment. The Messenger of Allah said to him: Weigh out and give overweight.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous in your dealings with others even if it's something small like a business transaction

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of generosity in business transactions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was walking when he came across Suwayd ibn Qays and Makhrafah al-Abdi who were selling garments from Hajar. He bargained with them for some trousers and when it came time to pay for them, he instructed the man weighing out the payment to give an overweight amount. This teaches us that we should always be generous in our dealings with others even if it is something as small as a business transaction. It also shows us that we should not take advantage of people or try to get away with paying less than what is due because Allah will reward those who are generous and kind towards others.
