Sunan Abi Dawud 3329 (Book 23, Hadith 4) #23619
Staying Away from Doubtful Things

SUMMARY: It is important to stay away from doubtful things as they can lead to unlawful activities.

Narrated Al-Nu'man b. Bashir: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: What is lawful is clear and what is unlawful is clear, but between them are certain doubtful things. I give you an example for this. Allah has a preserve, and Allah's preserve is the things He has declared unlawful. He who pastures (his animals) round the preserve will soon fall into it. He who falls into doubtful things will soon be courageous.

QUICK LESSONS:
Stay away from doubtful matters

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of staying away from doubtful things as they can lead to unlawful activities. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used an example of a preserve, which is a place where animals are kept safe and protected, and warned that those who pasture their animals around it will soon fall into it. He also said that those who fall into doubtful things will soon be courageous in doing so. This means that if someone starts doing something questionable or uncertain, they may become more comfortable with it over time and eventually do something unlawful without realizing it. Therefore, we should always strive to stay away from anything that could potentially be considered wrong or immoral in order to protect ourselves and our faith.
