EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about fulfilling one's vows and dedications. It was narrated by Ibn 'Umar, who said that Umar asked the Prophet Muhammad PBUH about a vow he had taken in pre-Islamic times to stay in the sacred mosque as a devotion. The Prophet PBUH advised him to fulfill his vow. This hadith teaches us that we should be true to our word and keep our promises, no matter how long ago they were made or what they are for. We should also strive to dedicate ourselves to Allah SWT through acts of worship such as i'tikaf, which is staying in the mosque for an extended period of time with the intention of worshipping Allah SWT alone.
