Sunan Abi Dawud 3309 (Book 22, Hadith 68) #23599
Inheritance of Slave Girls

SUMMARY: A woman came to the Prophet and asked about a slave girl she had given to her mother, who had since passed away. The Prophet told her that she would receive the reward for giving the slave girl and that it would return to her as inheritance.

Narrated Buraidah: A woman came to the Prophet and said: I gave a slave girl to my mother, but she died and left the salve-girl. He said: Your reward became certain for you, and she (the slave-girl) returned to you as inheritance. She said: She died and one month's fast was due from her. He (the narrator) then mentioned the tradition similar to the one mentioned by 'Amr b. 'Awn.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give in charity generously without expecting anything in return .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman who gave a slave girl to her mother but then her mother passed away. She went to the Prophet and asked what would happen with the slave girl now that her mother was gone. The Prophet told her that she would still receive reward for giving away the slave girl in charity and it will return back to her as inheritance. This teaches us an important lesson about charity; even if we give something away in charity, we will still be rewarded for our good deed even if we don't get back what we gave away directly. It also teaches us about inheritance; when someone passes away their possessions are inherited by their family members according to Islamic law.
