Sahih al-Bukhari 2461 (Book 46, Hadith 22) #2356
Accepting Hospitality

SUMMARY: The Prophet advises us to accept hospitality from people if they entertain us properly, but if not, we should take the right of a guest.

Narrated 'Uqba bin 'Amir: We said to the Prophet, "You send us out and it happens that we have to stay with people who do not entertain us. What do you think about it? He said to us, "If you stay with some people and they entertain you as they should for a guest, accept their hospitality, but if they don't, take the right of the guest from them".

QUICK LESSONS:
Accept proper hospitality; Be generous hosts; Respect your own rights; Be thankful for any offered hospitality

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when we stay with people, it is important to be respectful and accept their hospitality. If they do not entertain us as they should for a guest, then we should take the right of the guest from them. This means that even though we are guests in someone else's home, it is still important to respect our own rights and make sure that our needs are met. We must also remember to be gracious and thankful for any hospitality that is offered to us.

The Prophet ﷺ also taught us about being generous hosts ourselves when others come into our homes or visit our communities. We must always strive to make sure that those who come into our homes feel welcomed and respected by providing them with whatever they need during their stay with us.
