The Consequences of Not Informing

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a person who did not inform another person of something, and the consequences of not informing someone.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Ibn 'Abbas through a different chain of narrators. In this version there is no mention of the word Qasam (oath). It has the words: "He did not inform him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest and open with people; Tell them what they need to know; Keep your promises/oaths

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a situation in which one person did not inform another person of something. The consequence for this was that the first person took an oath that he would never do it again. This teaches us that it is important to be honest and open with people, and to always tell them what they need to know. If we don't, then we may have to face serious consequences for our actions. We should also remember that if we make an oath or promise, then we must keep it no matter what.
