Sahih al-Bukhari 2456 (Book 46, Hadith 17) #2351
Generosity in Inviting Guests

SUMMARY: A man invited the Prophet (ﷺ) to a meal and asked him to bring four other people. The Prophet (ﷺ) brought an unexpected fifth person, and the host allowed him to share the meal.

Narrated Abu Mas'ud: There was an Ansari man called Abu Shu'aib who had a slave butcher. Abu Shu'aib said to him, "Prepare a meal sufficient for five persons so that I might invite the Prophet besides other four persons". Abu Shu'aib had seen the signs of hunger on the face of the Prophet and so he invited him. Another man who was not invited, followed the Prophet. The Prophet said to Abu Shu'aib, "This man has followed us. Do you allow him to share the meal?" Abu Shu'aib said, "Yes".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous when inviting guests over for meals , Welcome unexpected guests , Be hospitable towards others in your community .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about generosity when inviting guests for a meal. Abu Shu'aib saw that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was hungry, so he invited him and four other people for a meal. When they arrived, there was an unexpected fifth person who had followed them. Despite this, Abu Shu'aib still allowed this person to join them for the meal without hesitation or complaint. This shows us that we should be generous when inviting guests over for meals and not worry about having enough food or resources available; Allah will provide what is necessary if we are generous with our hospitality towards others. We should also be welcoming of unexpected guests who may come along with those we have invited as it is part of being hospitable and kind-hearted towards others in our community.
