The Reward of Funeral Prayers

SUMMARY: Attending a funeral and praying for the deceased will be rewarded with two Qirats, one of which is equivalent to Uhud.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: If anyone attends the funeral and prays over (the dead), he will get the reward of one qirat, and if anyone attends the funeral until the completion (of the burial), he will get the reward of two Qirats, the smaller of them being equivalent of Uhud, or one of them being equivalent to Uhud.

QUICK LESSONS:
Attend funerals & pray over the dead

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah explains the reward for attending a funeral and praying for the deceased. It states that if someone attends a funeral and prays over the dead, they will receive one qirat as reward. If they stay until the completion of burial, they will receive two qirats as reward; one being equivalent to Uhud. A qirat is an amount of rewards given by Allah SWT in return for good deeds done in this world. It is also said that it is equal to half an ounce or 4 mithqals of gold or silver coins. The mountain called Uhud was where Prophet Muhammad SAW fought against his enemies during his lifetime and it has great significance in Islamic history due to its importance in battles between Muslims and non-Muslims at that time. Therefore, this hadith emphasizes on how important it is to attend funerals and pray for those who have passed away as it can bring great rewards from Allah SWT even after death.
