Sahih al-Bukhari 2440 (Book 46, Hadith 1) #2335
Passing Safely Over Hell to Reach Paradise

SUMMARY: Believers will be purified of their sins and admitted into Paradise after they pass safely over Hell.

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: Allah's Messenger said, "When the believers pass safely over (the bridge across) Hell, they will be stopped at a bridge in between Hell and Paradise where they will retaliate upon each other for the injustices done among them in the world, and when they get purified of all their sins, they will be admitted into Paradise. By Him in Whose Hands the life of Muhammad is everybody will recognize his dwelling in Paradise better than he recognizes his dwelling in this world".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do good deeds, strive for justice and purity

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the journey of believers from this world to the hereafter. It explains that when believers pass safely over Hell, they will be stopped at a bridge in between Hell and Paradise where they will retaliate upon each other for any injustices done among them in the world. After this, when they are purified of all their sins, they will be admitted into Paradise. Everyone will recognize his dwelling in paradise better than he recognizes his dwelling in this world due to Allah's mercy and grace. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to do good deeds so that we can reach paradise with ease and comfort as well as purify ourselves from our sins before entering it. We should also try our best not to commit any injustice against others so that we can avoid being punished for it on the Day of Judgment.
