Appointing a Governor

SUMMARY: The Prophet appointed Ibn Umm Makthum as a governor of Medina twice.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet appointed Ibn Umm Makthum as a governor of Medina (in his absence) twice.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ الْقَطَّانُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ اسْتَخْلَفَ ابْنَ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ مَرَّتَيْنِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad appointed Ibn Umm Makthum as the governor of Medina twice. This shows that the Prophet was very wise in his decisions and chose people who were capable and trustworthy to lead in his absence. He also showed that he was fair by appointing someone who may not have been from the most powerful tribe or family but still had the qualities necessary to be a leader. This hadith teaches us about leadership, trustworthiness, fairness and wisdom.
