Sunan Abi Dawud 2865 (Book 18, Hadith 4) #23155
The Best Kind of Charity

SUMMARY: Giving charity while one is healthy and able to do so is better than giving it away when one is close to death.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: A man asked the Messenger of Allah : Messenger of Allah, which sadaqah (charity) is the best ? He replied: (The best sadaqah is) that you give something as sadaqah (charity) when you are healthy, greedy, expect survival and fear poverty, and not that you postpone it until your death. and then you say: For so-and-so is such-and-such, and for so-and-so is such-and-such, while it was already for so-and-so.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give away your wealth in a generous manner while you're still alive and can make sure everyone gets what's due from them .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of giving charity while one is still alive and able to do so. It teaches us that it is better to give away our wealth in a way that will benefit others while we are still alive rather than waiting until we are close to death. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that if someone waits until they are close to death before giving away their wealth, then they may not be able to decide who should receive it or how much each person should get. Therefore, it would be better for them if they gave away their wealth in a generous manner while they were still alive and could make sure everyone got what was due from them. This hadith also teaches us the importance of being generous with our wealth and not being greedy with it. We should strive to use our resources in a way that benefits others as well as ourselves.
