Eating Game After Hunting

SUMMARY: It is permissible to eat game that has been shot and found dead after a few days.

Narrated Adi ibn Hatim: Messenger of Allah, one of us shoots at the game, and follows its mark for two or three days, and then finds it dead, and there is his arrow (pierced) in it, may he eat it? He said: Yes, if he wishes, or he said: he may eat if he wishes.

QUICK LESSONS:
Hunt humanely without causing unnecessary suffering or pain to animals.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the permissibility of eating game that has been hunted. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked if it was permissible for someone who shoots at the game, and follows its mark for two or three days, and then finds it dead, with his arrow pierced in it, to eat it. The Prophet ﷺ replied that he may do so if he wishes. This hadith teaches us that hunting is permissible as long as the animal is killed humanely and not tortured or abused in any way. It also teaches us to be mindful of our actions when hunting animals, as we should not cause unnecessary suffering or pain to them.
