Sunan Abi Dawud 2788 (Book 16, Hadith 1) #23078
Sacrifice and the Rajab Offering

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was instructing people to offer a sacrifice and an Atirah, which is what we now call the Rajab sacrifice.

Narrated Mikhnaf ibn Sulaym: We were staying with the Messenger of Allah at Arafat; he said: O people, every family must offer a sacrifice and an Atirah. Do you know what the Atirah is? It is what you call the Rajab sacrifice. Abu Dawud said: 'Atirah has been abrogated, and this tradition is an abrogated one.

QUICK LESSONS:
Offer sacrifices generously for Allah's sake

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was staying with his companions at Arafat when he instructed them to offer a sacrifice and an Atirah. An Atirah is what we now call the Rajab offering, which is a type of animal sacrifice that Muslims make during the month of Rajab. This tradition has since been abrogated, meaning it no longer applies today. However, this hadith serves as an important reminder for us to be generous in our offerings and sacrifices for Allah's sake. It also teaches us that even though certain traditions may become obsolete over time, they still have value in reminding us of our faith and how we should live our lives according to Islamic teachings.
