Sahih al-Bukhari 2411 (Book 44, Hadith 2) #2306
Do Not Give Superiority Over Moses

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a Muslim and a Jew who quarreled, and the Muslim slapped the Jew. The Prophet (ﷺ) then warned the Muslim not to give him superiority over Moses, as on the Day of Resurrection all people will fall unconscious and he will be one of them.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Two persons, a Muslim and a Jew, quarreled. The Muslim said, "By Him Who gave Muhammad superiority over all the people! The Jew said, "By Him Who gave Moses superiority over all the people!" At that the Muslim raised his hand and slapped the Jew on the face. The Jew went to the Prophet and informed him of what had happened between him and the Muslim. The Prophet sent for the Muslim and asked him about it. The Muslim informed him of the event. The Prophet said, "Do not give me superiority over Moses, for on the Day of Resurrection all the people will fall unconscious and I will be one of them, but I will. be the first to gain consciousness, and will see Moses standing and holding the side of the Throne (of Allah). I will not know whether (Moses) has also fallen unconscious and got up before me, or Allah has exempted him from that stroke".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect others regardless of their faith or beliefs; Try your best to resolve arguments peacefully through dialogue without judgement or prejudice ; Recognize God's authority over everyone equally regardless of their status in life .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a quarrel between a Muslim and a Jew. The Muslim said something that made the Jew angry so he slapped him in response. When this was reported to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ he asked for both parties to come before him. He then warned the Muslim not to give himself superiority over Moses as on the Day of Resurrection all people will fall unconscious but he would be one of those who gain consciousness first and see Moses standing by Allah's throne. He did not know if this was because Moses had also fallen unconscious or if Allah had exempted him from that stroke. This hadith teaches us that we should never think ourselves superior to anyone else no matter how much knowledge or faith we have as only Allah knows what is best for us all. We should also never resort to violence when faced with an argument but instead try our best to resolve it peacefully through dialogue and understanding each other's point of view without judgement or prejudice.
