Distribution of Spoils

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would give a third of the spoils after keeping off the fifth.

Narrated Habib ibn Maslamah al-Fihri: The Messenger of Allah would give a third of the spoils after he would keep off the fifth.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ الشَّامِيِّ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ جَارِيَةَ التَّمِيمِيِّ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ الْفِهْرِيِّ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يُنَفِّلُ الثُّلُثَ بَعْدَ الْخُمُسِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the distribution of spoils among people. According to this hadith, Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to keep off a fifth from the spoils and then distribute a third among people. This teaches us that it is important to be generous and share our wealth with others in need. It also teaches us that we should not be greedy and take more than what is necessary for ourselves. We should always remember that whatever we have is from Allah SWT and He has given it to us as a trust which we must use wisely and share with others in need.
