Sunan Abi Dawud 2726 (Book 15, Hadith 250) #23016
Appreciation for Dedication to Allah and His Apostle

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed his appreciation for Uthman's dedication to Allah and His Apostle by giving him a share of the spoils of war even though he was absent.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Messenger of Allah stood up, ie on the day of Badr, and said: Uthman has gone off on the business of Allah and His Apostle, and I shall take the oath of allegiance on his behalf. The Messenger of Allah then allotted him a share, but did not do so for anyone else who was absent.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to be dedicated in your service to God and His Messenger
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's appreciation for Uthman's dedication to Allah and His Apostle. On the day of Badr, when Uthman was absent, the Prophet stood up and said that he would take an oath on behalf of Uthman. He then gave him a share from the spoils taken in battle, which no one else who was absent received. This shows us that dedication to Allah and His Messenger is highly valued by God, as it should be. It also teaches us that we should always strive to be dedicated in our service to God and His Messenger so that we can receive similar rewards from Him. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about justice; even though someone may not be present at a certain event or situation, they should still receive their due rights if they have been dedicated in their service beforehand.
