Set aside a fifth portion from your food for charity

This hadith speaks about the importance of charity in Islam. It was narrated by Abdullah ibn AbuAwfa and Muhammad ibn AbulMujahid, who reported that they asked Abdullah if he set aside a fifth of food in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He replied that on the day of Khaybar, they captured food and people would take as much as they needed from it and then go away. This shows us that even during times when resources were scarce, Muslims were still expected to give away a portion for charity. This teaches us to be generous with our wealth no matter how little we have, as Allah will reward us greatly for it. It also teaches us to be mindful of those who are less fortunate than ourselves and share what we have with them out of kindness and compassion.
