EXPLANATIONS:
During a journey, a spy from the polytheists infiltrated the camp of Prophet Muhammad's companions. Upon discovering this infiltration, Prophet Muhammad commanded his companions to look for and kill him. One companion raced after him and killed him before taking his belongings as spoils of war which were then given to him by the Prophet himself. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible in Islam to defend oneself against those who seek to harm or infiltrate one's community or group and that it is permissible in Islam to take spoils from those enemies who are defeated in battle.
