Respect for Mosques and Mu'adhdhin

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed his followers to not kill anyone when they come across a mosque or hear the call to prayer.

Narrated Isam al-Muzani: The Messenger of Allah sent us in a detachment and said (to us): If you see a mosque or hear a mu'adhdhin (calling to prayer), do not kill anyone.
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ نَوْفَلِ بْنِ مُسَاحِقٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عِصَامٍ الْمُزَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ مَسْجِدًا أَوْ سَمِعْتُمْ مُؤَذِّنًا فَلاَ تَقْتُلُوا أَحَدًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about respecting mosques and mu’adhdhins. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) sent a detachment of people on an expedition and instructed them that if they come across a mosque or hear the call to prayer from a mu’adhdhins then they should not kill anyone. This hadith teaches us that we should respect places of worship as well as those who are calling people towards it. We should also remember that even in times of war we must still show respect for these places and people. It is important for us to remember this lesson so that we can be good Muslims and follow the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
