Sunan Abi Dawud 2572 (Book 15, Hadith 96) #22863
Humility and Respect in Action

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed humility and respect to others by refusing to ride the man's ass unless he was given permission.

Narrated Buraydah ibn al-Hasib: While the Messenger of Allah was walking a man who had an ass came to him and said: Messenger of Allah, ride; and the man moved to the back of the animal. The Messenger of Allah said: No, you have more right to ride in front on your animal than me unless you grant that right to me. He said: I grant it to you. So he mounted.

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask for permission before taking something from someone else; show respect towards those around you regardless of their status; use your position or power over others to help them out whenever possible; be humble and respectful in your personal relationships as well as society at large .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of humility and respect in our daily lives. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) demonstrated these values when a man offered him a ride on his animal. Instead of taking it without permission, he asked for it first, showing that even though he was a prophet, he still respected the rights of others. This teaches us that we should always be humble and respectful towards those around us, no matter who they are or what their status is. We should also remember to ask for permission before taking something from someone else, as this shows respect for their property and belongings.

The Prophet Muhammad's example also teaches us that we should not take advantage of our position or power over others; instead we should use it to help them out whenever possible. We can learn from this hadith that being humble and respectful is an important part of being a good person, both in our personal relationships as well as in society at large.
